Aston Villa goalkeeper Robin Olsen was attacked by fans after Manchester City secured the Premier League title, as a recent disgusting trend in English football continued.
Villa were on the wrong end of City’s dramatic comeback on Sunday, as they nearly managed to throw away the title on the final day of the season.
Steven Gerrard’s team took a 2-0 lead in the 69th minute, through Philippe Coutinho, which would have left Liverpool fans thinking their dream scenario was coming true.
With emotions and tension running so high throughout the day it was no great surprise to see fans run on the pitch at full time. However the scenes were unfortunately marred by Olsen being attacked by several fans.

After the match Gerrard was asked if all his players made it off the pitch unharmed, with the question itself pointing at a rather sad state of affairs.
The Villa boss replied saying, “No, no is the answer to that. My goalkeeper was attacked, so I think those questions should go to Pep Guardiola and Manchester City.”

Olsen was certainly a surprise inclusion to be in the team for the visiting team, having joined on loan from Roma in January, the keeper was yet to make an appearance for the team.
He didn’t have much to do other than pick the ball out of the net, before later being met by the awful scenes at full time, which Gary Neville criticised.
🗣️ “Idiots. Scumbags. Disgrace.”

The Sky Sports pundit’s reaction comes in the wake of other attacks that have happened in the past week in English football, as fans have disgraced themselves.
On the same night Swindon Town players were attacked following Port Vale’s win in the League Two play off semi final, after the match had gone to penalties.

Following Sunday’s incident, City made a statement apologising to Olsen, saying, “Manchester City would like to sincerely apologise to Aston Villa goalkeeper Robin Olsen, who was assaulted after the final whistle at today’s match when fans entered the pitch.
“The Club has launched an immediate investigation and once identified, the individual responsible will be issued with an indefinite stadium ban.”
The sooner morons stop ruining football for the majority the better!
