Eddie Hearn wants Dillian Whyte to fight Tyson Fury on December 5th.

Whyte was due to take on Alexander Povetkin on November 21st but the meeting was postponed to a targeted date of January 30th after the Russian was hospitalised for coronavirus.

Fury was already set to return to action in December when he takes on Anthony Joshua’s former sparring partner Agit Kabayel, although the contract is still to be confirmed, potentially leaving him free to fight Whyte.

Hearn said: “Just to confirm, I’ve spoken to Dillian, we would accept that [Tyson Fury] fight. Obviously, we’d have to talk about numbers, not looking to be greedy, but Whyte would love to fight Fury on Dec 5th. So, if there’s an opportunity to do that, we’d love to do that.

“Fury is looking for an opponent, Whyte is ready to go. Why not? We would jump into that.

“Honestly, from our side, we wouldn’t be difficult in making that fight at all.

“I know Fury and his team are looking for an easy fight in December. I don’t blame them. They are just coming off the Deontay Wilder fight and are looking to fight Anthony Joshua next year.

“But Whyte is more than ready and willing to jump into that fight on December 5. It’s a phone call away.

“If Fury wants a real fight, [Whyte] is there. We would definitely be willing to have a discussion about that fight.

“Obviously if Fury wants a more straightforward fight, we understand that as well.

“Certainly, we are looking to step in and take that fight.”

Hearn confirmed Matchroom Boxing were left with no other decision but to cancel the bout between Whyte and Povetkin.

He tweeted: “Unfortunately we got the news today that Alexander Povetkin is in hospital after testing positive for Covid-19. The fight will now be rescheduled to a target date of Jan 30. An announcement on our Nov 21 show will be made shortly.”

Whyte was out to make amends for his devastating knockout defeat to 41-year-old veteran Povetkin after he was knocked out cold in the fifth round back in August.

The Body Snatcher is currently at his training camp in Portugal and Hearn is clearly keen to explore other options.

Whyte and Fury have exchanged plenty of words in the past and there was even talk of a potential showdown for the WBC diamond belt back in 2019.

Fury’s bout with Kabayel is still to be rubber stamped.

Fury’s promoter Frank Warren told talkSPORT on Monday. “Tyson’s fighting on December 5.

“We’re giving the guy we wanna fight, which is Kabayel, we’re giving him 24 hours now to sign the contract or we’re gonna move on.

“He’s undefeated and has a win on his record over Derek Chisora.

“He [was] the European champion and he’s ranked by the WBC.

“That’s who’s sitting at the moment on a contract and we’re waiting.

“He’s got about 24 hours now to make his mind up to sign it and send it back or we’ll move on.

“He’s the fight, subject to the contract being signed.”
