Manchester United target Frenkie De Jong is being highly coveted by the Red Devils, as the 25-year-old could reunite with his previous manager Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.
De Jong spent three years in the Ajax first team under the new United boss, making 57 league appearances and reaching the Champions League semi-final in his final campaign.
The Dutchman has a release clause of around £338m at the Nou Camp, but in the financial difficulties and rebuild Barcelona are going through, Xavi is keen to shift the midfielder on to increase their transfer budget.
The Barca midfielder is valued at £67m by the Catalans, and well-respected journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the interest from the red side of Manchester.
De Jong will not be short of suitors, with the likes of Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain previously linked.
The Reds look to have lost out on Aurelien Tchouameni from AS Monaco, leaving a midfield target void as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner potentially exiting this summer.
PSG’s kitty will surely be depleted with the resigning of Kylian Mbappe, but it seems as if they still look to be active in the midfield market. Gini Wijnaldum’s deal hasn’t worked out, Angel di Maria has left, and Idrissa Gueye and Marco Verratti are ageing commodities.
In footballing terms, United would offer the least of the three as they are competing in the Europa League. But the connection to the manager and the opportunity to help reinstate the institution to the top may be too attractive a project to turn down.
