Liverpool will reportedly have to pay Wolverhampton Wanderers a bonus as part of Diogo Jota‘s transfer if they win the Premier League.

Jota swapped the West Midlands for Merseyside in a £45 million back in 2020 and he’s become a key member of Jurgen Klopp’s attack.

Per the Daily Mail, Liverpool have paid a further £13 million to Wolves in instalments in the last two years, with another payment due if the 25-year-old wins his first league title.

Wolves are currently eighth in the Premier League and guaranteed a top ten finish, but they’ll have their own incentives to play for.

Bruno Lage’s side will earn an extra £2.2 million in prize money should they confirm their position.

Jota has scored 21 goals in all competitions this campaign and Liverpool’s joint-second top goalscorer in the Premier League, alongside Sadio Mane with 15.

Mohamed Salah leads the way with 22 and that’s the most of any player in the league.

Liverpool are favourites to beat Wolves, while City are favourites to beat Villa and win their fourth title in five years.

Villa’s manager is Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard and he’ll be motivated to try and help his former side out.

Klopp addressed that in his pre-match press conference and understands how he’ll be feeling.

“I can only understand these situations by thinking of myself in that role,” he admitted. “If I could play a game that would help [Borussia] Dortmund, that would help Mainz, it would mean for me an extra motivation.

“That’s how it is. But I don’t play, and Stevie doesn’t play. It’s a shame – much more a shame that Stevie isn’t playing than I’m not playing!

“We are all human beings to have these kind of things. Stevie will take it 100% serious I’m absolutely sure, without me calling him. I don’t have to. Probably the rest of the club did it already, but I didn’t!”

Next weekend will see them jet off to Paris and face Real Madrid in a repeat of 2018’s showdown, which Real won 3-1.
