Rodrigo Bentancur was stopped in his tracks by Josh Brownhill’s piece of skill, as Tottenham Hotspur lost to Burnley on Wednesday night.

Nothing screamed Spurs as much as going from an excellent performance against Manchester City to a loss to relegation threatened Burnley, and that’s exactly what happened.

Injury was added to insult for the visitors as new signing Bentancur had to be subbed off at half time, after he had slipped in an effort to stop Brownhill, who sent the Uruguayan the wrong way, before the wet surface did the rest of the damage.

The former Juventus centre midfielder has been in good form since his move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and got to his feet after the incident but was clearly in pain.

He was replaced at the break by Harry Winks, due to the injury, and Conte’s side really struggled without the January signing in the middle of the park.

The weather for the rearranged fixture was no more pleasant as rain lashed down on Turf Moor, making the ground slippy enough for Bentancur to injure himself.

Mee’s goal, means the Clarets are only two points from getting out of the relegation zone with Newcastle United, who are above them, having played a game more.

Leeds United’s annihilation at the hands of Liverpool last night means Marcelo Bielsa’s side are only three points above Dyche’s side but have played two more games than the Lancastrians.
